Day at leisure in Cape Town to enjoy the many optional attractions and activities available in this magnificent city. Optional activities include tours to Robben Island, Cape Point Nature Reserve and Boulders Beach Penguin Colony, Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and the many wine estates of Paarl, Franschoek and Stellenbosch.
We head up the West Coast past the West Coast National Park to Lamberts Bay, an attractive fishing town on an unspoilt stretch of coastline. Particularly spectacular in spring, when the masses of wild flowers bloom, turning the entire region into a yellow, red and orange maze.B.D
We depart this morning en route to the border of South Africa and Namibia the Orange or locally known as the “ Gariep “. Your first border crossing of the journey and a simple exercise in patience. Renown for its good weather and even better unsets this evening under stars will set the scene for our upcoming days. B.D
You spend the night at Canon Lodge (subject to season, this could also be Ais Ais Resort). There will be ample time to visit the canyon, or partake in an optional walk. The Canyon is one of the most staggering sights in Africa, B.D
You continue on to The Namib Naukluft National Park and the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei. This is one of the world’s oldest deserts, offering over 130 million years of natural wonder, and the highest sand dunes in the world! Adventure activities abound, including guided walks, hot air ballooning and light aircraft flights. B.D
On day 6 you leave early in the morning and enter into the park. We head for and climb the dunes for stunning aerial view over this sea of sand, after which we proceed to Sossusvlei and the 2x4 parking area. From here it is an approximate 5 km walk to the vlei where you are free to explore. Stunning photographic opportunities are available in the dunes. B.L.D. On your return to your lodge you'll stop off at the Sesriem canyon
You will spend two nights in lodge accommodation at Swakopmund. A delightful Bavarian-style town, situated snugly between sea and desert. Great beaches, deep-sea fishing, quad biking, dune boarding, flights over the desert, plus an array of shops, bars and restaurants await you. In Swakopmund you are free to explore at your leisure or partake in the many optional activities. This is also a chance to catch up on laundry, banks and communications. B
Leaving Swakopmund you journey via the spaces and formations that have made Namibia such a sought after destination for those wanting to re-connect. You will arrive at the world famous Etosha National Park, ready for your safari experience. Dominated by white saltpans you have a chance to see elephant as well as black rhino, lion and leopard. All camps have floodlit waterholes ( which have recently been upgraded due to the centenary of the park ), which are excellent for after dinner game viewing, as well as swimming pools for cooling off during the heat of the day. We will take part in 3 game drives whilst we are here. Typically you will make an early start, which is ideal for morning game viewing, and drive to some of the waterholes in the park before heading back to the rest camp for brunch. Approximately 3 hours per game drive. In the afternoons you will take another game drive, and return back to the rest camp before dark. B
You leave Etosha bound for the stunning Waterberg Plateau National Park. Historically significant, because it was the site of the war between the Germans and the Hereros, the area has now become a haven for many endangered species. It is renowned for its incredible rock formations and walks. Your time in the Waterberg is your own and you are free to walk in the park at your leisure. Excellent sign posted hiking trails make for easy self-guided walks. Optional game drives and guided walks are available.B
You travel towards the border between Namibia and Botswana and to Gobabis where you will overnight at a private game farm. This is your last night in Namibia and a fitting place to hear fireside tales of your journey so far.B.D
You wake up early for your departure for the border post to Botswana. Once all the formalities have been completed you will head for Maun, which is the gateway to the amazing Okavango Delta. You will prepare for the following days to come and be briefed by your guides on what to take into the Delta. Please remember space in the makoros (local word for canoe - and your mode of transport in the delta) is at a premium, and a small overnight bag for necessary clothes for 3 days is all that is needed. All camping and catering equipment, bedding and all foods are provided. Your lodge is just outside the center of Maun. Although a small town, Maun has several shops, good communications and banks.B.D
An early morning pickup awaits you where will be transferred to the airstrip for a light charter flight to the Delta. Your tented camp is located deep in the Delta, and you can participate in game walks and mokoro safaris.B.D
After breakfast you are taken by charter flight to Maun. You depart Maun, heading east towards Nata. Situated 10km from Nata Town, your lodge has a large swimming pool, curio shop and restaurant. The birdlife in this area is particularly spectacular, due to the nearby Makgadikgadi Pans and Nata Sanctuary. B.D
You depart Nata and head for Kasane and your lodge on the banks of the Chobe River. You will arrive around midday at your lodge in time for an afternoon sunset game viewing cruise on the Chobe River. The fabulous Chobe National Park is famous for its huge herds of elephant, and your guided river cruise should provide excellent sightings of elephant, hippo, crocodile, and an impressive array of birds and plains game. There is a swimming pool, restaurant, curio shop and bar at the lodge. B.D
On Day 18 you will have a few hours at leisure in the morning for an optional game drive in Chobe National Park or indulge yourself at the hotel's health spa. A short drive from Chobe takes you to the spectacular Victoria Falls - one of the ‘seven natural wonders’ of the world. You are free to explore it at your leisure. Take a sundowner cruise or enjoy hoards of other adventure activities. Your lodge is close to all the bars, restaurants and hot spots for that last big splurge. B
